HCD Building Control has gained extensive experience working with the Prison Service; to date we have recently completed/currently working on, some 25 prisons, ranging from refurbishments, extensions and new complete prisons.
HCD are at the forefront of ensuring that the correct and appropriate standards are applied to Prison establishments, this is been undertaken by the National Building Control Forum which HCD assisted in the set up in conjunction with NOMS.
HCD has worked closely with NOMS on the development of a certification process for Building Control approval. This move follows a decision by the Home Office to require contractors to gain third party Building Regulations approval on all new build and refurbishment projects. This brings the custodial sector in line with building projects in the private sector that are not covered by Crown Exemption. Under the new arrangement, contractors have to appoint an Approved Inspector to check and sign off work.
